Alpharetta Police Blotter: July 11-July 18

The following arrest information was supplied by the Alpharetta Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Driver 'Argumentative and Belligerent' During Traffic Stop

On July 11 an Alpharetta police officer spotted a vehicle driving 85 mph in a 65 mph zone on GA 400. As the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver pulled to the left and stopped by the median wall before the officer was able to get him to pull off on the right side of the road.

When the officer started asking questions, the driver became “argumentative and belligerent” and the officer who called for backup. The driver was adamant about not drinking alcohol though the officer noticed visible signs of impairment. After failing a field sobriety test, the driver was arrested and the vehicle towed. He was charged with speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and DUI.

DUI Blamed for Traffic Accident

A two-car traffic accident on July 12 located on Mansell Road at the GA-400 southbound off ramp caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

During the investigation, an Alpharetta police officer reported in an incident report that alcohol could be smelled coming from one of the drivers. Based on the traffic incident and observations on the scene, the driver was charged with driving on a suspended license, red light violation, no insurance and an expired tag.

As another officer took inventory of the suspect's truck, he was unable to close the vehicle's tailgate. That's when he noticed what looked like marijuana wedged in the tailgate latch. The driver was charged with window tint violation, driving on a suspended license, and possession ofless than one ounce of marijuana

Teens Arrested for Possession of Marijuana

When a group of teens were caught on July 18 at North Point Mall by a security officer smoking what turned out to be a "legal weed," they should have known to leave the property.

The security officer had contacted Alpharetta police, and when an officer arrived he found them with the intent of telling the teens about the dangers of even a legal "weed." This time, however, the teens were found with what police said was a marijuana cigarette.

The teens were brought to the Alpharetta Public Safety Department before eventually being released into the custody of their parents.
