Alpharetta Man Sentenced in Internet 'Traveler' Sex Case

Ronald Martin Stamps received four years in prison and six years probation in Dalton court.

An Alpharetta man was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday in Whitfield County Superior Court for his involvement in a so-called Internet β€œtraveler” sex case.

According to a report in the Dalton Daily Citizen, Ronald Martin Stamps also received six years probation, a $2,000 fine and 250 hours of community service for a conviction of criminal attempted statutory rape.

Stamps, 47, was arrested in October 2010 at a Dalton-area motel where officers say he was waiting to have sex with two girls, ages 12 and 14, who he believed he had contacted via the Internet. The contacts actually were members of the Dalton Police Department child sex crime task force.

According to the Daily Citizen, Stamps was charged with three counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony; he pleaded guilty to one of the charges.
