Alpharetta Man Killed While Changing Tire On I-75

Brian Edward Durst, 54, was killed Monday afternoon when a tire from a passing utility trailer struck him while he was changing his tire in the emergency lane.

An Alpharetta resident was killed Monday afternoon while changing a tire along Interstate 75 in Lamar County.

At around 12:50 p.m. July 14, a tire from a passing utility trailer slipped off and fatally struck Brian Edward Durst, 54, who was changing his vehicle in the emergency lane, the Georgia State Patrol said in a press release.

Durst was on the southbound side of the interstate around mile marker 198 when the incident occurred.

The vehicle pulling the trailer did not stop, and the state agency is asking the public to help them locate the trailer, vehicle and driver involved in the incident.

State troopers believe the trailer tire came from a two-axle utility, boat, horse, or box trailer.

Anyone with information on the vehicle, trailer, or driver is asked to call the Georgia State Patrol at the Newnan Communications Center at 770-254-7201 or the Lamar County Sheriff's Office.
