Obituary: Virginia Lamkin, 88

Mrs. Lamkin was a board member of the Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society.

The following obituary was submitted by Roswell Funeral Home:

Virginia Teeters Lamkin, age 88, of Alpharetta, died Sunday, Sept. 1. Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m Friday Sept. 6 at the Roswell Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be held in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, Missouri at a later date.


Mrs. Lamkin, born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, was a 1946 graduate of Oklahoma College for Women, receiving a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration. While there she was a member of the Glee Club, Sigma Delta, and Pi Zeta Kappa.

She married the late John Clayton Lamkin III on August 24, 1952; and after settled in Independence, MO from 1953-1987. Mrs. Lamkin was a member of the Independence Branch of the American Association of University Women, serving as past president; the Independence Study Club; and Inner Club Council.

She served on the boards of the Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, and the Independence Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Lamkin was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Literary Club and Indian Hills Golf Club.

Mrs. Lamkin and her husband retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas in 1987; and most recently moved to Alpharetta, Georgia in 2004 where she was a member of Roswell United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law; Lynn and Tom Sullivan, Jayne and Robert Appling; grandchildren: Sharon Sullivan, Kyle and Jessica Sullivan, Clayton Sullivan, Katy Appling, and Sam Appling; brother, Donald Teeters; and brother-in-law, Bill Lamkin and his wife, Aurelie.
