Obituary: Michael "Mike" Knottek, 68

The Alpharetta resident served in the U.S. Army before starting a long corporate career.

The following obituary was submitted by McDonald and Son Funeral Home:

Michael "Mike" William Knottek, 68, of Alpharetta lost his hard-fought battle to cancer on Sept. 3.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; his daughter Kari, son-in-law James
Evans, and grandson Cooper; his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Matthew Simpson; his son Michael and daughter-in-law Danielle; and his brother Paul.

Mike was born on Sept. 16, 1944, in Philadelphia. He was raised by his parents, Michael and Alberta, with his sister, Patricia, and brother, Paul.

When he was 17, Mike enlisted in the United States Army to serve the country
he loved. After completing his service, he enrolled in Rider University where he received a bachelor of science degree in commerce in 1969.

After college, Mike continued his education at Pepperdine University. Mike began his career as a CPA with Arthur Anderson and worked in various executive management positions before joining Rollins, Inc. in 1997. He worked for Rollins, Inc. as senior vice president and corporate secretary until his retirement in 2010.

Mike is remembered first and foremost for his devotion to family, in addition to his
hard work, intelligence, and wit. He was an avid fisherman, a car enthusiast, and
a devout fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He approached everything he did with
enthusiasm, and his love of life was contagious.

Mike will be missed dearly by his family, friends, colleagues, and anyone else who knew or had the opportunity to spend time with him. We are all better people for having known him.

A funeral service will be held in Mike’s honor on Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike’s memory to Lighthouse Family Retreat or Acoustic Neuroma Association.
