Obituary: Larry Edmund Mashburn, 75

Mr. Mashburn was an active member of Roswell United Methodist Church and the Roswell Rotary Club.

Larry Edmund Mashburn, 75, of Milton passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24. His love, gentleness, compassion and charity touched many hearts. He left us peacefully in the company of friends and family and will be sorely missed by many.

He was born to the late Edmund and Eunice Mashburn, June 6, 1938, in Gainsville and spent his childhood in Alpharetta. Larry graduated from Milton High School, class of 1956, he then proudly served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps and then entered Mercer University in Macon where he played baseball and basketball.

The following year he transferred to the Georgia Institute of Technology and became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Larry graduated from Tech with a degree in Industrial Management followed by a master’s degree from Georgia State School of Business Administration.

Patricia Smith of Nottingham, England won his heart and the two were wed on Oct. 23, 1971, sharing their lives together in north Fulton county, before settling in Milton in 2005. He spent the majority of his career as a trusted Certified Financial Planner with PPA Investments, Inc of Roswell.


Larry was an active member of Roswell United Methodist Church and Roswell Rotary Club. He loved to help others and was on the board of numerous charitable and financial organizations, notably serving as President of the Georgia Planned Giving Council, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Metro Atlanta March of Dimes as well as Chairman of the Board of trustees of the Methodist Children's Home.

Along with his wife he is survived by his brother Connie, his two sons: Cameron Mashburn, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tim Mashburn, of San Clemente, California. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Lucy 15, Hunter 13, Austin 12, Chloe 11, Stella 8, Carter 6 and Lorelai 4.

The family will received friends on Tuesday at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell. Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Roswell United Methodist Church.
