Elinor S. Haggerty, 84, Dedicated Her Life to Volunteering

The Alpharetta resident helped charitable organizations across the country during her life.

Elinor S. Haggerty, 84, of Alpharetta, died Thursday, Oct. 24 peacefully at home with her daughter by her side.

Born in Manchester, CT, she attended schools in Connecticut and Massachusetts, later attending Mount St. Mary's College. She attended St. Brigid Catholic Church in Alpharetta. Her previous church was Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May, NJ.

Elinor dedicated her life to charitable organizations and volunteering where ever she lived. Some of the organizations she assisted with included a Women’s Homeless Shelter in Pittsburgh, Pa., Campfire leader, the churches and schools located in Pittsburgh, Cape May, NJ and many other states including California and Tennessee as well. She was a devoted member of The P.E.O. organizations in Pittsburgh, Cape May and Alpharetta, the Shade Tree Commission in Cape May and much, much more.

Wherever she lived, worked or went people gravitated to her and came to know her for your devotion to her religious belief’s, her loving heart, giving soul and light-hearted way of living. Always putting a smile in everyone’s heart and day and letting know that they mattered and she cared. She will be greatly missed by all who ever knew her.

Preceded in death by: husband, Walter E. Haggerty Jr. whom she was married to for 46 years; mother, Aileen B. Strange; brother Jack Strange.

Survived by: daughter, Alizabeth Haggerty, son Peter J. Haggerty of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Michael, Kyle and Lauren Brennan of Alpharetta, Rachel, Tristan and Almin Haggerty of Pittsburgh, great-granddaughter Noel Haggerty also from Pittsburgh; niece, Kate Haggerty of New York; brother-in-law, John Haggerty and sister-in-law Kathy Haggerty of New York. Pat, Terri, Libby, Peggy, Steve and Rich Strange of Connecticut.

She will be buried next to her loving husband, Walter E. Haggerty, Jr. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape May, NJ officiated by clergy from Our Lady Star of the Sea respectively.
