David E. Miles Jr., 90: World War II Air Force Vet, Devout Christian

David Earl Miles Jr., 90, died Dec. 22 after a period of declining health.A native of Durham, NC, who had moved to Alpharetta, Earl was the son of David Earl Miles and Mamie Couch Miles.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served his country in the Air Force during World War II. He and his family lived in Durham, North Carolina; Palestine, Texas; and Greenville, South Carolina, where he worked for Texize Chemicals, Inc. until his retirement.
He was a devout Christian who served his God and church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a member of The Seminar Sunday School class at First Baptist, Greenville, SC. He served his fellow man as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Greenville Soup Kitchen. Earl also enjoyed bridge with friends, playing golf, and following UNC sports.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betsy Bob Holt Miles. Earl was devoted to his children, Mary Beth (Stan) Stoudenmire, Candace Adeimy, and David (Donna) Miles. His grandchildren are Miles Stoudenmire, Laura (Robbie) Brock, Marian (Nick) Avise, William Adeimy, Camille Miles, and Leah Miles, and his great-granddaughter Harper Elizabeth Brock.
Family graveside services will be held in Durham, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Crossnore School, PO Box 249, Crossnore, NC 28616 (www.crossnoreschool.org).
