Upgrading your windows will dramatically improve energy efficiency in your home. You can save up to 25% percent on your current home energy bill. That’s a significant amount of savings, especially if you have a high average monthly energy bill, like $175 or higher! You could pocket over $525 dollars in one year just by upgrading your outdated windows.

Looking at home energy bills should give a person the drive to conserve energy at home. Too often we’re so busy in our day to day life that we just accept what is written on the electric bill and write the check. However, we all know deep down inside that we need to start looking for techniques for home energy conservation. Although there are various avenues to pursue in the home, we usually recommend starting with inspecting the condition of the home’s windows. Some major signs indicating outdated windows that need to be replaced include are drafts within the home, buckled glass, or a deteriorating window frame.

The best Energy Star windows for your money would be the double-paned and filled with argon gas. Upgrading or replacing your home’s older windows will make a significant difference the day the windows are installed. Argon gas is placed in between the two glass panes to act as an insulator. The gas insulation is the buffer in between your home’s window panels that keeps extreme heat and cold balanced, ensuring pleasant temperatures within the home year round. Improving your home by installing replacement windows with low-e and argon gas will meet the standards of energy efficiency and make a significant positive change in your home energy bills.

If you find yourself placing your home on the real estate market, your energy efficient house will stand out in comparison against competition. There is a growing trend of real estate firms specializing in ‘green’ friendly homes.  A ‘green’
home is energy efficient and includes environmentally friendly products. If you
would like for your home to fit into this category, the best place to start is
by replacing your windows, and Energy Star rated replacement windows will help you save money on home energy costs while also helping to make a compelling selling point. It is usually best to replace the windows prior to putting the home on the market because you will have historic energy costs and usage figures
showing your new, lower bills on hand for the potential buyer. If the window
replacement takes place a year or two prior to the home going on the market,
then you will have energy bills to show and compare as well.

When replacing your windows, make sure that the new ones are Energy Star rated and meet energy savings performance standards (NFRC). If you know your original windows are outdated they would need to be replaced within the past seven years or more. Seven years ago, most windows did not include argon gas, and there were fewer restrictions on manufacturing, especially in new homes. These older, lower quality windows would not meet today’s standards of an energy efficient home.
