GIRLS

The evening led off for the Lady Eagles with the Open 1600 meters which saw senior Kim Toscano come from behind in the last 100 meters to win the race (1st -5:42.50) in a personal best! Senior Katie Robinson improved on her best by 8 seconds (5:46.30) in finishing 4th.  In the invitational 1600 meters, sophomore Riley Burr, coming off her big races at the Fulton County meet the week before, just missed her personal best (5:22.00) in finishing 2nd! Junior Juanita Pardo’s 6th place effort (5:31.20) moved her to 10th on the all-time Milton list!  The 800 meters saw junior Amy Ruiz run near or at the front in the invitational division and eventually settled in the runner-up spot (2nd-2:31.70).

BOYS

The Eagles literally “showed their wings” with fast times and top-finishes in the three distance events contested.  In the 1600 meters, sophomore Jack Bluth, running only his third time at the distance ever, moved up thru the experienced field of competitors to finish 4th (4:30.50) notching a 22 second personal best! And in turn, became the 6th fastest performer in Milton school history!!  Fellow sophomore Matt McGorrey ran right with Bluth and held on to a big personal best to take 10th place (4:37.70). The 800 meters also did not disappoint for Milton as freshman Michael McCarthy became the 10th fastest performer in school history with his 2:01.80 to take 3rd overall. McCarthy this season has become the 3rd fastest freshman at 800 meters in the entire state of Georgia!  In the final race of the evening for Milton, the 3200 meters, junior Preston Meade ran a new personal best of 10:14.90 to place 6th but the highlight was the 1-2-3 finish in the open 3200 meter race by freshman Valera Stettner (11:11.80), senior Peter Randall (11:24.00) & junior Christian Kirkup (11:26.80).

After spring break, the Milton T&F teams enter the “post-season” with the Region 5-AAAAAA meet at Roswell HS on Wednesday & Thursday, April 16-17.  The top-4 finishers in the events contested at the region meet will advance to the Sectionals meet the following weekend, April 26th, at MacEachern HS in Powder Springs, GA.
