Milton HS Track & Field Has Good Showing at Fulton County Champs

Top-10 Milton school performances pace Eagles on 1st Day

The Milton HS track & field teams, depleted by many attending Prom, competed well and had some impressive performances at the Fulton County Public Schools meet yesterday at Westlake HS in Fairburn.  After the first day the Milton boys (18 pts) are 7th and the Lady Eagles (15 pts) are 8th out of 16 competing schools. Finals in the remaining running events conclude the meet on Monday, March 31st.

GIRLS

The Lady Eagles got two 3rd place finishes and two 7th place finishes to tally their team points.  Senior Kia Carson continued a successful season long jumping with her second-best leap ever of 16’8” to place 3rd. Taylor Whittington had another big throw to place 3rd in the discus (81’10”) missing her best by just a foot.  Sophomore Riley Burr moved to 4th on the all-time list with her 14-second personal best of 11:47.68 to place 7th in the 3200 meters!  Cara Doll shared a 3-way tie for 7th in the pole vault with her leap of 7’6”.

Other highlights included Simone Harford’s qualifying for the 100 meter hurdles final on Monday with her 17.99 performance to place second in her heat.  On Monday, the Lady Eagles will compete in the 1600 meters with junior Anne Neenan & Riley Burr along with Harford in the 100 meter hurdles.

 

BOYS

Milton saw scoring from all angles with points coming from distance, jumps & throws. In the 1600 meters, juniors Connor Cole (4th-4:38.79) & Preston Meade (7th-4:41.59-a personal best) accounted for 7 points.  Matthew Ballard saw a strong leap in the Pole Vault with his 3rd place effort of 10’!  Corey Claiborne continues his fine season of throwing as well with his toss of 41’1/2” to claim 4th in the Shot Put.  Monday will see the boys of Milton compete in the 800 meters with senior Kevin McGorrey & sophomore Jack Bluth & the 3200 meters with Connor Cole and sophomore Clay Marshall.
