Milton HS T&F Crowns TWO County Champions

Eagle Runners set all-time top-10 performances at 2nd day of County Championships

 

The Eagles of Milton concluded their efforts at the 2014 Fulton County Public Schools Track & Field Championships at Westlake HS in Fairburn, GA on March 31st with two new champions and strong team finishes & top-10 all-time school performances with the boys placing 7th (40 pts) and the girls placing 9th (19 pts) out of 15 scoring schools.

GIRLS

The second day of the meet saw a small group of girls competing but the highlight was a big one with sophomore Riley Burr running a 5:20.26 in the 1600m to place 8th but in the process became the school’s 2nd best performer at that distance! Junior Anne Neenan finished a step behind with her personal best of 5:21.57 to place 9th & become the 5th best performer in school history! Hurdler Simone Harford made the final in the 100m Hurdles and placed a solid 6th place in 17.86.

 

BOYS

Matching their efforts from 2013, the Eagles crowned another 2 county champions with senior Kevin McGorrey winning a thrilling race down the stretch in the 800m to record a personal best of 1:57.62 and become the 4th fastest performer in school history!  He was closely followed by sophomore Jack Bluth who ran a 1:58.66 to finish third, also a personal best and now the number 5 performer in school history!  Not to be out done, junior Connor Cole took the early lead in the 3200m and never looked back and with the aid of his teammate sophomore Clay Marshall, went on to win the race by 7 seconds (9:56.71) and become the 7th best performer in school history!  Marshall hung with Cole until 2 laps to go but held on to run a personal best of 10:15.60 & place 6th.

 

The next meet on the schedule is the Woodstock Distance Carnival set for Friday, April 4th at Woodstock HS in Woodstock, GA.  After spring break the Eagles have the Region 6-AAAAAA Meet at Roswell HS in April 16-17th with the top-4 finishers in each event advancing to the sectionals meet at MacEachern HS on April 26th.
