Milton High School Track Teams Battle the Elements in Meet with Roswell & Dunwoody

Points few & far between as the cold windy weather hampered performances for the Eagles

The Milton HS track teams faced dropping temperatures and high winds as they travelled to Roswell on March 12th for a meet with the Hornets and the Wildcats of Dunwoody.  Roswell was the overwhelming winner in both the girls (65 pts) and boys (81 pts) team scoring. The Eagles finished second in both (girls-25 pts, boys-33 pts) with Dunwoody trailing (25 & 20 pts respectively).

With not ideal conditions, the Lady Eagles held their own with wins in the 4x100 relay (52.70) and the 300 hurdles (Caroline Winnett-53.75) & long jump (Kia Carson 15’2”).  Two 2nd place efforts were recorded by Laura D’Andrea in the Shot Put (26’2”) and Taylor Whittington in the discus (71’1”) & 3rd place efforts by Lydia McGinnis (400 meters-1:07:08), Allison Rhodes (long jump-14’11”), Kelsey McGinnis (discus-69’2”) & Mary Ashleigh Coleman (shot put-26’2”) concluded the scoring for Milton.

BOYS

The Eagle boys fared about the same as the girls but got a strong performance from Justin Taylor as his meet win in the 300 hurdles (46.10) also included a runner-up in the triple jump (35’5”). Teammate Nick Harford matched that effort with a win in the 100 meter hurdles (17.42) and a second to Taylor in the 300 hurdles (46.15) to lead all Milton scorers.  Points came from runner-up finishes by Kevin McGorrey (1600-4:55.64), Connor McNamara (Pole Vault-10’6”), Nick Wilson (shot put-42’3.75”) & Corey Claiborne (discus-139’1”). Third place scoring finishes included Nick Wilson (discus-111’2”) & Owen Carrick (100 meters-11.63).

Next up for the Eagle track teams is a very busy weekend as Milton travels to Georgia Tech for the annual Coaches Invitational on Friday-Saturday March 14 & 15 with other team members returning to the Hornet’s Nest at Roswell for the Annual Roswell Rotary Relays on Saturday, March 15th.
