As she has done all season, senior Kia Carson led Milton with her fine performance in the Long Jump to score 8 points and set a new school record, going 17’4” to become the runner-up in the AAAAAA classification.  Under damp, humid, cloudy and off-on rainy conditions, not ideal for most long jumpers, Carson, jumping in the first flite, put her performance up on her 2nd jump of the competition and was the leader going into the second flite.  Bola Hombolu of Collins Hill surpassed Carson in the 2nd flite jumping 17’9” going into the final three jumps.  During the final not a single jumper left in the competition improved in the not-so-ideal conditions and the competition was settled.  Carson was an unlikely podium finisher as she had only been 5th at Fulton County, 4th at region (final qualifier for sectionals), and only 5th at the sectionals.  A truly remarkable performance on a day not ideal for long jumping!

Senior Devon Artis was the other Lady Eagle competing at the state meet and her 57.10 performance in the 400 meter semifinals put her in the final where she eventually raced to a 7th place finish (57.26) to score 2 team points and conclude her track career at Milton.

Next up for the Eagle track team is the Boys GHSA State Track & Field Meet which will be held May 8-10 at Jefferson HS Memorial Stadium in Jefferson, GA. Milton athletes competing include Corey Claiborne-Landy in the discus (May 8th) & Kevin McGorrey & Jack Bluth in the 800 meters (May 9th).
