Varsity Boys
The Eagles ran a very strong team effort and with some very fast times were able to snag the last trophy winning sport (3rd-113 pts) to best 17 others schools. Milton put all five scorers in the top-38 to edge Pace Academy (4th-116 pts) and kept it close for the win! Mountain View HS (in Gwinnett County) was the team champion (1st-95 pts) followed by Mill Creek (2nd-101 pts). Senior co-captain Kevin McGorrey ran upfront the entire race to record a 16:49 good for 5th place. There were 206 finishers. Continuing to impress is the freshman Michael McCarthy. His 17:18 performance was the 2nd fastest freshman time in the race and put him in the medals at 17th place. Backing these Eagles up were sophomore John Fravel (26th-17:38) & senior Brendan Kemple (27th-17:39). Closing out the scoring for Milton was the superb run by senior Peter Randall. The homecoming court member ran a 17:47 good enough for 38th place. Also running varsity for Milton were sophomore John Jurgens (18:07-56th), senior co-captain Spencer Greene (18:13-61st), senior Ryan Keefe (18:39-90th), freshman Valera Stettner (18:51-101st), and junior Connor Greisinger (19:03-110th).
Varsity Girls
The Lady Eagles challenged for a trophy but fell just short in finishing 5th (129 pts) out of 20 scoring schools. Brookwood (1st-95 pts) won a tight battle with Pace Academy (2nd-96 pts) & North Atlanta (3rd-97 pts) as the first 3 schools were separated by only 3 points. Richmond Hill out of Augusta just edged Milton for 4th (123 pts). Senior co-captain Abbey Jordan led the Lady Eagles as her front-running during the race was spectacular! Jordan challenged for the win with less than 800 meters to go but settled for a hard-fought 5th place (19:41). Next to finish for Milton was the outstanding performance from senior Kim Toscano. Her 20:41 was good for 24th place. A strong pack then followed for Milton as sophomore Anna Renko (31st-21:11), junior Hallie Howell (32nd-21:12) and junior Michelle Pick (37th-21:24) closed out the scoring. Also running varsity for the Lady Eagles were senior co-captain Katie Robinson (49th-21:41), junior Hayden Estes (71st-22:37), senior co-captain Addie Luxton (78th-22:49), and seniors Madeline Bluth (83rd-22:58) & Sarah Hoffman (89th-23:24). There were 177 finishers.
JV Boys
In the largest race of the day (436 finishers and 27 scoring teams) the Eagles managed a solid 8th place finish (220 pts) by placing all-5 scoring runners in the top-60 team scoring finishers. Leading this group for Milton was junior Christian Kirkup’s 18:48 (30th) and was backed-up by a strong race from junior Hunter Knapp (37th-18:58), senior Matt Jordan (56th-19:16), sophomore Larry Liu (68th-19:26) and senior Griffin Strom (76th-19:33).
JV Girls
The final race of the meet for Milton was a good one as the Lady Eagles surprised many and finished an incredible 5th place out of 18 scoring schools (179 pts). By putting all 5 of their scorers in the top-50 team scoring positions, Milton was able to defeat 12 other schools. Junior Bishop Reeder led Milton with her 45th place finish (24:03). There were 302 finishers in the race. Sophomore Marley Brown continued her fine season with a 55th place finish (24:26). Fellow sophomore Lindsey Van Etten (61st-24:32) was followed by freshman Raine Walker (67th-24:44) and the scoring concluded with sophomore Julianna Butzer (69th-24:46).
The Milton HS Cross Country teams have their annual inter-squad relay event this week and return to action on Saturday, October 12th as they travel to Greenville, SC for the Gene Mullin/Furman University Invitational.
