Ahmadi Muslim Women hold Nusrat Jehan Sports Day

Muslim women hold sports day at their local community center.

The women’s auxiliary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (GA Chapter) held their annual Nusrat Jehan sports day at the Alpharetta Community Center on March 23, 2013. The event is named after the wife of the community founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian (India). Nusrat Jehan was a noble Muslim Woman and a role model for many. Every spring, the members of the women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, come together to celebrate a day of fun, games and exercise. This year the event brought fifty-six attendees from the GA Chapter.

            The women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, (international) established in 1922, has several offices encompassing all aspects of the women’s lives. The local office of Health and Fitness headed by Ghazala Malik organized this event under the supervision and support of the auxiliary’s President Farhat Pall of Lawrenceville. These wonderful women worked hard to make sports day a success.

The event started at 10:30 a.m., with a prayer followed by opening remarks by the President and Health Secretary. The competitions were held in three age groups-7-12, 13-26 and 27 years and above. Some of the competitions organized were, track race, relay race, three legged race, obstacle race and much enjoyed by the young adults, the potato sack race. Also fun was the jumping jacks competition. It was loads of laughter at the flag tag and musical chairs. There was plenty of fruit and refreshments for everybody who attended.

Pizza was served as lunch around 1p.m. followed by the afternoon Muslim Prayer and then the competitions resumed. Mehwish Pall, from Lawrenceville remarked: “I look forward to this day every year when we come together to participate in so many exciting games and activities. This day allows us Ahmadi Muslim women and children to enjoy the fullest. It’s definitely worth it.”

The games finished around 3:15 p.m. followed by prize distribution and closing prayer. Everyone who participated tried their best and had fun. But, most importantly everyone made fun filled memories along the way. The Health Secretary noted, “I’m very proud of everyone who participated, and gave it their all. Thank you all for making Sports Day a success.”
