We're Growing Our Own Shiitake Mushrooms!

A hands on, two-hour workshop sends 15 people home with shiitake mushroom inoculated logs.

The non-profit Alpharetta Arboretum, creator of 3 arboretums in the city of Alpharetta as well as the Alpharetta Community Garden, sponsored a Shiitake Mushroom Log class on Saturday morning.

Alpharetta Arboretum board member, Sandra Kinney, taught 15 participants what kinds of trees make the best mushroom logs, how to inoculate the logs with mushroom spawn and how to care for the logs in order to get those precious Shiitake mushrooms.Β

Now we can grow our own mushrooms for our "Fall Squash and Shiitake Mushroom Soup"! Β
