The City Milton and Alpharetta Both Claim - Crabapple

Development has come and will continue to come to the Crabapple area. I hope it keeps its charm and ambiance.

Have I ever told you readers how much I love Crabapple?

Crabapple is the place I came to against my will in 1997 when the husband's job took us back to Atlanta metro.  Yes, back.  I was pretty happy with being away from the place I grew up - Georgia - and being in my sweet little Tennessee town. But, instead of staying there I came back.

Every neighborhood we looked at seemed so unsatisfying, so dismal.  Dunwoody, Roswell, Brookhaven, other parts of Alpharetta - none of them looked like home.

And then came Crabapple.  We found 8 acres on Rucker Road.  Every day I drove the kids west on Rucker, north of Broadwell, through the intersection, and on to Crabapple Crossing Elementary.  Every afternoon I picked them up and drove south on Birmingham, left at the Crabapple Crossroads and eventually down Charlotte Drive to home.  This trip to school continued in one way or another all the way through both my kids graduations from Milton High School.

I have gone to countless Crabapple Crossroads antique shows.  I have walked and walked the roads and side roads of Crabapple.  I've shopped in Crabapple; eaten at Crabapple.  It is so full of charm.  It is home to me.

I'm tentatively happy that a library is coming to Crabapple.  I'm fairly happy with the village build-out in Crabapple.  I'm certainly happy to have restaurants so close that I can walk to them.

I want to urge those of us vested in Crabapple to take a real "citizen" voice in Crabapple - in the zonings and re-zonings of neighborhoods; in the look of the area.  As for the near future - Alpharetta City Council has been and will be hearing several re-zoning applications for the Crabapple area.  These may or may not help this area.  Please listen in to this conversation and raise your voice whichever way you please.  You might consider starting by attending the City Council meeting and Public Hearing on March 25 at Alpharetta City Hall.

I consider this place home.  I hope it becomes the best that it can be.
