Buying Beer for Bloggers

Bloggers blog because they love to write and because they have ideas and good will to share with people.

Quite recently, a person who commented on one of my blogs suggested that someone "needs to buy this woman a beer!"  (me being that someone).   I must say, I couldn't agree more, for several reasons:  I'm extremely cheap and I'd prefer someone else do the buying; I really like the idea of fun times, whether they involve beer or don't involve beer; and I really like conversation - and beer serving establishments are excellent venues for conversations.

Indeed, more citizens should step forth and offer beer to bloggers since, in general, bloggers either don't get paid or make very little off their blogging attempts.  We Patch bloggers don't get paid at all.  We just blog for the love of writing.  I guess we're crazy like that.  Something about loving words and ideas....

But I'll say this though.  Bloggers put themselves on the line.  Yea.  That's right. On the line.  That's because we give something of ourselves and freely in many cases.  We voice opinions and thoughts, not for the pay, but because we believe in something  - or we like good recipes - Food Blogs are some of the best stuff out there.

We put up with some crazy and even abusive comments.  We expect disagreement but welcome supporting statements.

But for those of us doing it for free - it's just an exercise in writing skill and expressing the heart.  If someone listens and it somehow manages to change human history, then perhaps that's a great thing.  Writing isn't just about venting...it's actually about good will and courage and sharing of good information and expressing new ideas that help people and community.

Hope you like the Hibiscus pictured with this blog.  I took that picture this week at my garden.  Who says things don't bloom in September?
