Beautiful October

Beautiful October. My favorite month.

Today I'm thankful for a breather.  I'm done with work for the week.  It's a beautiful day.  I've got a million things to do at home but for this minute, for right this minute, the world feels light.

And there are so many things to be thankful for like this minute; things like wellness, husband, kids, extended family doing well.  I'm thankful for that pineapple guava jam my dad made last week and that he's around to make it. I'm thankful for the husband that appreciates my own attempts at culinary creations. I'm thankful for the pleasure of creating them.  I'm thankful for my work, and for my colleagues at work who have the best sense of humor in the world.  It's good to laugh.

I'm thankful for the way the tree tops look orangish this mid-October day and the way the Japanese maple has already turned scarlet.  I'm thankful for the Helianthus flower still in bloom.  I'm thankful for the hops that have this year decided to grow all over my vines.  I'm thankful for the glorious send-off the garden gives to the viewing world in autumn; a fireworks extravaganza that says, "My that was a fine year!  Best wishes to all and to all a good night!"

I'm thankful that I'm sitting here in my sun filled room listening to Gonzalo Rubalcaba play "Here's That Rainy Day" - a juxtaposition to this light, sunny day and aren't rainy days the only way to explain sunny days?   I'm thankful for almost all the days I carry with me, but particularly days like this October day, driving by mountains and through mountains; looking at colors and blue sky and cattle munching and the red tail hawk swooping.

I'm thankful for this minute - to be still; just being still...and writing these few words.
