UPDATED: Free Tax Help Available in Alpharetta and Milton

For those people earning no more than $49,000 or who are senior citizens, the AARP Tax Aide program offers assistance.

Need help with your personal taxes? Stop by the Adult Activity Center at North Park or the Crabapple Senior Center near the Alpharetta/Milton city limits. But first you'll need an appointment for the free help.

Volunteers from the IRS-VITA and the AARP Foundation host the free tax aide program, providing assistance and e-filing of both federal and state returns for people making up to $49,000 per year and senior citizens.

Bring the following documents: Last Year's Tax Return, Photo ID, Blank Check for Direct Deposit. First time clients should bring Social Security cards for every individual claimed on the return.

In 2011, the tax aide program at Fulton library branches alone helped nearly 3,000 patrons.

This free service is being offered through April 17 at the following nearby locations, dates and times. All sites are handicapped accessible. (More sites are available in Johns Creek and Roswell.)

  • Alpharetta Adult Activity Center, By appointment only. Mondays, 3-6:30 p.m.; Tuesdays & Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-1:40 p.m. 678-297-6140.
  • Crabapple Senior Citizens Center, By appointment only. Thursdays, 1:30-3:15 p.m. 678-297-6160.
  • Northeast Spruill Oaks Library, Monday, 10 a.m-3:30 p.m.  Wednesday, 1-3:30 p.m. 770-360-8820. First come, first served. Walk-ins welcome.
  • Roswell Library, Monday, 12:30-4 p.m. 770-640-3075. Walks-ins welcomed.
