European Market Fills Milton Avenue in Downtown Alpharetta this Weekend

Downtown Alpharetta will take on the feel of a European Market on Saturday and Sunday, with two big tents filling Milton Avenue between Main Street and Canton Street.

The two tents will be filled with booths of handcrafted jewelry, vintage furnishings, fashion & accessories, art, gifts and collectibles, one of a kind unusual finds by local artisans & gatherers.

Tina Soucie, the market creator, said she has had this kind of market previously in Cobb County. One of the participants in that version of the European Market, Donald Mitchell, is now a City Councilman.

"He had come to me in February and said, 'Would you bring your big tent and kind of European-style market to Alpharetta?' I said I would love to because I don't think there's anything like this," Soucie said.

It's not just an artisan or artist's market, she said. A lot of "gatherers" find lots of great things to put it together.

Soucie said she's glad Alpharetta included it in their Fall planning. That includes the Alpharetta Business Association sponsored Downtown Farmer's Market moving from its normal location next to City Hall over to Milton Avenue.

"I believe in supporting the community," Soucie said.

She'll have two big tents, each 40 feet wide by 80 feet long, erected on Milton Avenue.

"Something about that creates that good buzz," she said.

The booths are meant to complement the existing businesses in downtown and bring more people to the area.

"When I travel to Europe, I love to come to these artist markets and find one-of-a-kind things," she said.

Soucie, a Smyrna native, said she's seen and heard of lots of great things coming from Alpharetta. Even before this weekend's European Market, she said she hopes it's going to be an annual event.
