Milton Fire Raises More Than $72,000 For MDA

The Milton Fire Department raised more than $72,000 over six days of "Fill the Boot" drives this spring, setting a new department fundraising record for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), said Fire Chief Robert Edgar. 

The total represents a seven percent increase over last year's record-breaking total, which speaks volumes to the generosity of Milton residents and motorists on Milton roads, said Edgar.

"I cannot speak highly enough of our residents and the drivers who come through our city every day," said the fire chief. "They opened up their wallets to give to a great cause, and because of their generosity, children will live better, fuller and more fulfilling lives."

Edgar also had words of praise for his firefighters.

"Everyone gave all they had to ensure this year's fundraising efforts were our most successful yet," he added. 

Edgar said A Shift, which raised money on Friday, April 4 and May 16, brought in the most — more than $29,000. They will be recognized by the department for the achievement.

To date, the Milton Fire Department has raised more than $420,000 for MDA, which uses the money to aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups and a chance for children to attend Camp Walk-N-Roll.
