Senior Services Launches Meals on Wheels for Pets

North Fulton organization will purchase specific food for individual pets and deliver it.

You've likely heard of Meals on Wheels. Now, Senior Services North Fulton has developed a Meals on Wheels for Pets program to help older adults receive assistance feeding their furry friends.

“Some of our clients, both homebound older adults and senior center participants, have requested assistance with purchasing pet food,” said Carrie Bellware, executive director of Senior Services North Fulton, in a press release. “The cost is more than they can afford on limited incomes and many cannot get to the store to purchase the food. Unfortunately, some older adults have to give up their beloved pets to relatives or shelters.”

The organization recently received a grant of $2,500 from the Banfield Charitable Trust to help launch the program. Clients will be able to provide their pets with the food they are accustomed to eating because Senior Services will purchase food specifically for the pet and deliver it to the client’s home.
