Community Corner

2011 Alpharetta/Milton Executive Lock-Up

Approximately 100 local business and community leaders will be “arrested” and hauled off to “jail” at the 2011 Alpharetta/Milton Executive Lock-Up to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. A local MDA family will attend the event to speak with the participants and share their stories. Diane Bullens from Formation Capital LLC and Jennifer Howard from the Office of Public Safety have both raised over $1,000 so far – almost 30 minutes of research (one minute costs $74).

Participants (“jailbirds”) will attempt to raise “bail,” money which is donated to MDA to help fund groundbreaking research and provide services to local families dealing with neuromuscular diseases.  With Alpharetta/Milton community support, MDA hopes to raise $60,000 this year.  The event includes a free catered lunch for the participants, networking opportunities, raffle prizes, and a DJ.  “Jailbirds” get their mug shots taken at the event, and are transported to and from work in police cars and luxury vehicles. Anyone interested in becoming a “Jailbird” for this event may contact Angela Brown at (770) 850-0533 or abrown@mdausa.org.

Businesses interested in supporting the event may purchase a $250 or $500 “STAR” to receive recognition on the 2012 local MDA Telethon.

Funds raised remain local, benefiting over 2,220 families in the Metro and North Georgia areas living with neuromuscular disease.  MDA provides assistance in the maintenance of wheelchairs, leg braces and speech communication devices; MDA clinic visits; annual summer camp for children living with muscle disorders; lifesaving research, and much more.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.  The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
