Atlanta Sparks Needs Just $250 to Reach its Goal for Ice Time, Equipment

The special needs hockey program is using GoFundMe to raise funds.

The Atlanta Sparks hockey program serves members who have disabilities that prevent them from joining traditional teams.

"We cater to those athletes that have hearing disabilities, learning disabilities and those individuals that need a sled to participate," organizers of the special needs hockey program wrote on their GoFundMe page, created by Dan Carmody.

Donations through GoFundMe are used for ice time and equipment only. Most of the equipment the program uses has been donated by the local hockey community.

However, one hour of ice time costs $330 for the program, and they need 19 hours reserved for the season.

The Atlanta Sparks GoFundMe page has raised $1,750 toward the goal of $2,000, putting them in reach of their needs. What's left is less than the cost of one hour of the ice time they need.

Twenty two people raised that amount in three months. But the program has 334 friends and hopes some of the other friends will come through for them.
