Forget The Flowers This Valentine's Day

My dear friend and next door neighbor emailed me this week and asked if I knew of a no-kill animal shelter in our area that she could donate to. I suggested  'Angels Among Us Pet Rescue' which is based in Alpharetta. This organization is dedicated to saving animals from high kill shelters around North Georgia.

I didn't think much more about it until I got a text today. My friend told me that she had gone to their website and made a donation online. She then told me that she had decided that instead of receiving flowers for Valentine's Day from her husband, she had made a memorial donation instead.  Wait a minute! What a great idea! Now don't get me wrong, I love getting flowers as much as anyone else does.  But, flowers are expensive, they last a few days ( if you are lucky) and then off they go into the trash. 

What a great way to show a little love this Valentine's Day? I think I will follow my friends lead and donate to pet rescue. I certainly won't miss the flowers.

A donation can make a big difference, whether it be to a homeless shelter, animal shelter, hospital  or any of the countless non-profit organizations that need our help all year round. Aren't we always complaining about how commercial the holidays have become?

It would be nice to spread some love and caring this Valentine's Day.

Who knows, maybe we can start a trend : )
