St. Baldrick’s 13th Annual Fundraiser for Childhood Cancer - A Head Shaving Extravaganza at The Harp Irish Pub in Roswell, Sunday, March 9th

With a profoundly personal reason to support childhood cancer research through the international St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the family connections at the Harp Irish Pub are strong.  Tanya Connolly-Walsh, the mother of two young children and the daughter of Ray Connolly, the proprietor of the Harp Irish Pub in Roswell, explained why they are so dedicated to being part of the solution through this annual fundraising effort. “The St. Baldrick's event that we are hosting at the Harp Irish Pub on Sunday, March 9th from 1 to 5pm is a celebration!  We invite the community to join us in raising these critical funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a non-profit company that funds research to help find cures for children with cancer.  We found out that our son had cancer when he was just six weeks old, we’ll never forget that date, and it was on March 17th.  This annual March event celebrates him and many others.”  Tanya and her family are really dedicated to this cause.  She explained, “My son, Keelin, now 9 years of age, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when he was only six weeks old.  I am a lucky and fortunate mother to now say that he has been cancer free for six years.”  See Keelin’s webpage for St. Baldrick’s to read his story at

Ray Connolly said, “Monies raised by the St. Baldrick’s childhood cancer research are primarily raised through head shaving events across all fifty states in the USA and over 28 countries.  The head shaving events are all based on bringing together volunteers, families and friends to shave their heads in solidarity for children who typically lose their hair during cancer treatments.  This is our way of giving back to the community that we care about and bringing attention to this life and death issue that impacts so many families.” 

He continued, “The Harp Irish Pub in Roswell has been hosting this event for the last 13 years and every year it has grown tremendously.  The event is family friendly, it is a fantastic way for families and businesses to pull together and have fun, all while showing their support.  All the participants involved volunteer their time; the kids help fold t-shirts, the barbers volunteer to shave the heads and of course, the Emcee inspires everyone in the room with jokes and laughter, plus encouraging all those submitting their heads to be shaved, both young and old.
