Community Corner

Scarecrow Harvest

Who?
The 8th Annual Scarecrow Harvest is a time when our community comes alive with whimsical scarecrows. Accredited K-5 Schools create approximately 100 scarecrows each year.

SCARECROW HARVEST EVENT on Sat, October 5 from 10am - 2pm is a thank-you event to the students and community for creating scarecrows. FREE family merriment includes groovy country music, games of crow-cornhole, hay rides to the log cabin, quirky face painting, historical demos, artsy activities, stimulating story-telling, and engaging inflatables.

At 12pm, SCARECROW AWARDS and prizes will be given to Accredited K-5 Schools classrooms for Most Creative, Best Constructed, Best Personality, “Go Green” Crow and SchCOOLEST (school with the most participating classrooms) Scarecrows.

Barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs and more from Smokejack, A Southern Grill, and fall treats such as caramel apples will be offered.

In conjunction with the event, purchase fresh produce at the Alpharetta Farmers Market by ABA (Alpharetta Business Association). After the daytime festivities, make plans to return to downtown to dance on the streets with the scarecrows. ABA will continue the downtown festivities into the evening with “Brew Moon Fest” a street dance, brew and shenanigans! For more information, go to www.alpharettafirst.com.

Celebrating farmers and Alpharetta’s rich agricultural history from 11am to 2pm tour the Future Farmers of American Log Cabin by the Alpharetta Historical Society www.alpharettahistoricalsociety.org, “plant-a-posy” and old timey demonstrations.
