Rain Pounds Alpharetta This Morning

Showers and thunderstorms could continue for most of the day.

A National Weather Service severe thunderstorm warning that expired at 5:30 a.m. was fairly accurate, except the storm not only hit south central Forsyth County and extreme northeastern Fulton County this morning, but also farther west into Alpharetta and Milton. And the downpour continues.

For the rest of the day the forecast has a hazardous weather outlook. Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and tonight. Some of the storms could be strong this afternoon with brief heavy rain and gusty winds. Be careful of brief ponding of roads, though this is more likely across west central Georgia.

The National Weather Service predicts that the thunderstorm activity will diminish this evening, but increase in coverage late tonight across north Georgia. Again, some of these storms late tonight could be strong with brief heavy rain and gusty winds. Severe weather is not expected through tonight.
