Heat, Humidity, Ozone Make Time Outdoors Dangerous for Some

Children, people sensitive to ozone and those with heart and lung disease need to cut short their time outdoors today.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division has issued the code orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups) air quality alert for Atlanta for Sunday.

Under code orange conditions, the outdoor air is likely to be unhealthy for some people. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest.

The heat index is forecast for 95 degrees at 4 p.m. today by the National Weather Service, with humidity at 61 percent. On July 4th, the heat index will rise to 97 degrees along with the relative humidity at 66 percent at that same hour.
