GA 400 Toll Plaza Construction Slows Traffic

The work will allow motorists to use either the Peach Pass or Cruise Card to use the Cruise Lanes at the plaza.

Don't forget that the GA 400 Toll Plaza is under construction as the State Road and Tollway Authority has begun technology upgrades to the “Cruise” lanes. Motorists should expect traffic delays throughout the weekend.

The work plan requires that all southbound and northbound “Cruise” lanes are closed while the work is underway, significantly impacting traffic flow.

Weekend construction will take place, weather permitting through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 27. Motorists should plan to take alternate routes and expect delays as they approach the GA 400 Toll Plaza. Since the Cruise lanes are closed, make sure you head right to the toll lanes.

While there's no charge during the construction time, expect traffic to bottleneck as cars slow to a crawl to pass through the lanes.

Construction work will include the installation of new multi-protocol transponder readers in the “Cruise” lanes and equipment upgrades in the “Cash” lanes to include new gate arms, automated cash machines and video cameras. Upgrades in the “cash” lanes will begin on Monday, June 27 and continue through July 27, 2011– closing one lane in each direction at any given time.

The new technology will provide motorists with the ability to use their Peach Pass or Cruise Card at the GA 400 Toll Plaza.

The Peach Pass is a small, thin electronic tolling device that adheres to a vehicle’s windshield, similar to the Cruise Card. Only one device (Peach Pass or Cruise Card) is needed in a vehicle to have access to the “Cruise” lanes on GA 400 and the new I-85 Express Lanes when they open later this summer.
