Freezing Temperatures Saturday and Sunday in Alpharetta, Milton

The National Weather Service forecasts a chance of snow that will switch to rain, and gusts of wind that will make low temperatures feel cooler.

Residents of Alpharetta and Milton who got up early this morning or will be up late tonight will experience freezing temperatures as winter holds its grip on North Georgia.

The National Weather Service is even forecasting a chance of a half inch of snow or more just north of a line from Canton to Cumming to Gainesville, but any precipitation here is likely to transition to rain. A 50 percent chance of precipitation is in the forecast.

The forecast calls for a chance of rain and snow showers before 2 p.m., then a chance of rain showers. Expect a cool breeze, with gusts as high as 25 mph.  Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

At 12:30 a.m. today, snow could be spotted when silhouetted by car headlights and other lights, but it was so light it seemed to disappear before it even hit the ground.

A freeze warning continues until 9 a.m. today, and is renewed from midnight to 9 a.m. Sunday, continuing the danger to sensitive or newly-budded plants.

Today won't be much warmer, with the high expected to reach 42 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Sunday won't be much warmer, as the high nears 46. Winds will remain northwest and 10-15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 mph. Expect a low around 29 with the northwest wind becoming light after midnight.

It won't be until Monday that the high reaches the 50s.
