Lost Dog Back Home With its Alpharetta Owner

Editor relieved to report happy ending.

FINAL UPDATE TUESDAY, OCT. 18: As I've already reported on Facebook, the lost dog is back home. Its owner, Bill, turns out to be a neighbor from a different section of my community, and boy was the pup glad to see him!

Bill says he was just given a new collar by a family member for the dog, and hadn't yet transferred the tags from the older collar.

Thanks to all of you who shared your good wishes on this one. Now my own beagle can settle down from the excitement.

Unfortunately, the daschund-beagle mix lacks an identification chip, so I've still got no idea who the owner is. Thanks to the folks at for checking for a chip today.

I've already had two offers to take this young pup off my hands if the owner isn't found. (Terri, don't worry. You and your Shitzu have "first dibs" if we can't reunite them!)

Taking my dog for a walk usually is a relaxing time, never taking more than 20 minutes or so. Sunday had to be different much different, when a second dog decided to join us.

I see plenty of dogs in my neighborhood in one of the Henderson Village developments, all of which are off Henderson Parkway. Usually the dogs are on leashes with their owners, or at the windows of their homes.

But on Sunday, this little dog was by itself, with no human around. The dog had a collar and a leash--well, at least most of the leash. With the elderly population in my neighborhood, seeing the leash had me worried that I'd find someone who had fallen or something, but that fear never came to pass. Instead, I noted the nylon leash was frayed at the end.

I looked around for someone who might be missing the dog. I eventually picked up the leash and took it to the closest streets. Handling this young pup and my own beagle became too difficult without a proper leash on the lost dog, so back home we went before I took just the lost dog traipsing through the neighborhood, hoping someone was out looking for it. No such luck there, either.

So Sunday night and there's a barking dog in my house, and I'm wondering where it's owner is. If you recognize this pup, or think you do, give me a ring or an email. We'll head to a vet to check for an identity chip, but I'm not holding out hope for that.
