Dense Fog Makes Driving Hazardous This Morning

Heavy rainfall causes Big Creek to rise well above flood stage.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a dense fog advisory which is in effect until 10 a.m. Visibility will be reduced to a quarter of a mile or less at times through the morning commute.

"Sudden reductions in visibility will make for hazardous travel conditions this morning," the National Weather Service advisory said.

The local forecast said to expect widespread dense fog before 11 a.m.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and use your headlights while leaving plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.

A flood warning continues for Big Creek and the Chattahoochee River today. At 3 a.m. the stream was at 10 feet and steady.

At 10 feet, minor flooding continues upstream and downstream from the gauge on Kimball Bridge Road. The flood waters expand further into the woodlands along the creek and begin to affect some residential yards between Cumming in Forsyth County, through Alpharetta and Roswell in North Fulton.

The Big Creek Greenway is closed and completely flooded with up to 4 feet of water in some areas. Flood stage is at 7 feet.

The creek will fall below flood stage early Tuesday morning. Don't expect to be able to use the Greenway until that time or later.
