Alpharetta Closing Roads Saturday For Old Soldiers Day Parade, Race

Detours will force traffic off sections of GA 9 and Old Milton Parkway.

If you planned to drive through downtown Alpharetta on Saturday, forget it. Several downtown Alpharetta roads will be closed on Saturday morning, Aug. 6, for the Old Soldier's Day Race and Parade, so motorists need to take alternate routes at that time.

You've probably seen the traffic advisory signs, but in case you missed them or were paying attention to traffic instead–and that's a good idea–here's the information you'll need to get through the city.

Since many residents walk to the parade route, or park outside of the immediate area and walk in, consider any street near downtown a danger zone with pedestrians popping into traffic at any time.

The city expects sections of Old Milton Parkway, GA 9 (Main Street), Milton Avenue and Old Canton Street to be closed from 6:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

The race starts at 7 a.m. by the city pool, while the parade starts at 10 a.m. at City Hall. However, parade lineup will cause streets to be closed even earlier.
