$1 Million Winning Lottery Ticket Bought in Alpharetta

You had a chance at winning in the $1 Million Benjamins top prize, but instead the winnings went to someone from out of town.

A Georgia Lottery ticket worth $1 million was sitting in Alpharetta, ready for anyone to pick it up, but it's gone now to Sugar Hill. An out of town resident bought the $1 million Benjamins instant game ticket at a local convenience store.

Scott Harris of Sugar Hill picked up his big ticket at the Chevron Food Mart located at 6415 Atlanta Highway. He claimed his prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. says it has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
