Cambridge Bears Win Homecoming Game 14-0

Head Coach Craig Bennet was really pleased with the shutout in Friday night's game against Forsyth Central. He credited the defense for playing extremely well. Cambridge Bears 14-0 win over the Bulldogs started with a smashing tackle by linebacker Brock Neilson who had an exceptional game.  Standout defense was also provided by sophomore linebacker Trey Wolfe who sacked the Bulldogs for a 6 yard loss. The Bears first scoring drive started off with a 10 yard pass play by QB Brian Moore to running back JD White, followed by passes to Nathan Kish for 5 yards, again to White for 10 yards and to Christian Johnston for 15 yards. Moore wasn't done yet as he hit his favorite target, John Hurst, for 12 yards, added a QB keeper and then one final pass completion to Johnston for the touchdown. Extra point by Clayton Hammer was good. Bears held the lead 7-0.
Bears defense held the Bulldogs scoreless from the Red Zone several times during the game.
Second quarter, #10 Ryder Deaton made his presence known with some key tackles to stymie Forsyth Central in their attempts to score. Bears scored again with a drive that included a gorgeous 45 yard pass from Moore to John Hurst and then connected with Hunter Smith in the end zone for 6 more points. PAT by Hammer made the score 14-0 at the half.
The remainder of the game had a few stellar offensive plays  but no further scoring. Some exceptional defense by Josh Kania kept good pressure on the Bulldogs offense. Zeke Gormley finished off any hopes FC had of scoring in the final minutes of the game with an interception.
Next up - Friday, Oct. 18, home game against Creekview is a pink-out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
