Unum Leases Space in Alpharetta Data Center

The disability, group life and voluntary benefits firm is the first operational tenant in the facility.

T5 Data Centers today announced that Unum will lease wholesale data center space in T5@Atlanta, T5’s purpose-built wholesale data center located in Alpharetta. The new data center is part of Unum’s implementation of a data center strategy to add redundancy and modernize its facilities and systems to better serve its internal and external customers.

Sydney Crisp, VP of IT Operations and Risk Management at Unum said, “T5@Atlanta was selected because of its purpose built design and construction which resulted in a robust data center infrastructure. In addition, T5 was flexible in delivering a solution, which was tailored to our needs.  We have confidence in T5’s ability to run a first class facility and to deliver as promised.”

A Fortune 250 company, Unum is a market leader in disability, group life and voluntary benefits with 160 years of being in business. The Unum lease is a milestone for the firm, marking T5@Atlanta’s first operational tenant in the data center that has been open for business for only a few months.

Unum, represented by Michael Dolan and Shan Gastineau of Jones Lang LaSalle, leased a portion of the overall square footage and power available in T5@Atlanta and currently is building out the space. The data center can accommodate several additional tenants, and T5 Data Centers is actively marketing the property.

T5 Data Centers, launched in 2008, is an owner/operator of wholesale data centers and developer of purpose-built facilities. T5@Atlanta is unique to the Southeast US data center market because it is a truly “ground-up, purpose-built” data center. T5@Atlanta has 54,000 square feet of raised floor data center space in the 100,000 square foot facility with 7.5 mega watts of IT load for lease.

“We started from scratch on T5@Atlanta, making no compromises found in “retrofitted” warehouses re-purposed as data centers. From the beginning, we had the risk-averse segment of corporate America in mind and our lease with a company processing information as sensitive as that of Unum is another step toward proving the T5 business plan,” said Pete Marin, president of T5.
