Parent Company Puts Howard in Charge of Florida Bank

The chairman of Alpharetta's Bank of North Georgia sees his role with Synovus Bank expand into the Sunshine State.

Don Howard's role with Synovus Bank has expanded to include a new role as regional CEO of Synovus Bank of Florida.

Howard assumes this role for the Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank in addition to his current role as chairman of the local Board of Directors at Bank of North Georgia and Synovus Regional CEO for the Atlanta market, which includes Bank of North Georgia and Bank of Coweta. Β 

Howard was one of the founding members of Bank of North Georgia which was formed by the merger of Cherokee Federal Bank and North Georgia National Bank in 1994.

Throughout Bank of North Georgia's history, Howard has been an instrumental leader and champion for the bank. In 1998, the bank became part of Synovus, the Georgia-based financial services company. Howard served as President and COO of the bank until 2003 when he was appointed Chairman and CEO.

Β Active in the local community, Howard currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Georgia Southern University, Secretary/Treasurer of the North Fulton Community Improvement District, President of the Board at the Roswell Convention & Visitors Bureau, advisory board member of the North Metro Miracle League, and member of the Roswell Rotary Club and . In 2010, Howard was appointed by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue to serve on the Board of Commissioners of the Georgia Student Finance Commission. In recent years, he has served as Chairman of the Board at North Fulton Hospital, President of Roswell Rotary Club and as a board member for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the North Metro YMCA.
