North Fulton Chamber Congratulates T5 on Alpharetta Data Center

City Council had to approve a variance so the company wouldn't have to build 156 more parking spaces than it would ever need.

A $75 million data center will open in November on property along Webb Bridge and Morris roads, just east of GA 400, according to published reports.

T5 received approval from Alpharetta City Council to cut the number of parking spaces required from 206 down to 50. Only 6,000 square feet of the approximately 100,000 square foot building will have space for employees. The rest will be devoted to computer servers and storage devices.

Conditions imposed by the City Council will protect buffers around the property, screening the data center from view on Webb Bridge or Morris roads.

On Feb. 11, Brandon Beach, president and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, congratulated Atlanta-based T5 on its site selection.
"This is great news, not only for North Fulton but for the entire region," said Beach. "This data center will support our current businesses and those that will be bringing new jobs to the area."

North Fulton Chamber's Tedra Cheatham, vice president of economic development, said T5's selection of the Alpharetta location made sense, given the area's good fiber infrastructure and access to reliable and inexpensive power sources.
"We are excited to see this type of capital investment in our community," said Cheatham. "This type of co-located data center will also fill a void we had for this product in the North Fulton market."

Data center growth is expected to increase in Atlanta by 30 percent in the coming year as the region is now one of the fastest-growing markets, according to the chamber.
