McKesson Technology Cutting 174 Alpharetta Jobs

The workers get the bad news in time for the holidays.

Workers at Health Systems Enterprise Solutions office on Windward Parkway have two months to find a new job, as the company plans to close the unit.

"We anticipate that these employment separations will be permanent, and will affect approximately 174 employees at this location," said Tracy Chastain, senior vice president of Human Resources, in the notice filed with the state.

McKesson, one of Alpharetta's largest employers, announced the layoffs in paperwork filed with the Georgia Department of Labor. Alpharetta spokesman James Drinkard said McKeson's 2011 business license lists 1,800 jobs at the Windward Parkway campus.

The company plans to cut 158 employees on Feb. 10, 2012, with two to four employees at a time being laid off between March 25, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2012.

Jobs affected include the following:

Software architect, business systems analyst, clinical healthcare content analyst, database administrator, systems project manager, software quality assurance analyst, software engineer applications, systems manager and technical writer.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification was filed Dec. 8 with the state. It is classified as a closure.
