North Fulton Breast Cancer Survivor Given Shopping Spree

The pair traveled to maurices Conyers store to do their shopping.

A Johns Creek breast cancer survivor and her daughter recently were treated to a reception and a $1,000 shopping spree by maurices, a women’s fashion retailer and a corporate partner of the American Cancer Society.

Jenny Summers, and her daughter Rachel, 15, traveled to the retailer's Conyers store for the reception and shopping.

Jenny says the shopping spree was a “complete shock” to her and Rachel. She says when she and Rachel arrived at the store, maurices District Manager Kristen Harrell told them the company likes to give back to the community and said how much she admires Jenny for her courageous fight against cancer.

“Then she said, ‘You and Rachel will be given $1,000 to spend on just yourselves today. Our goal is to let you just have fun and a great time,’” Jenny continues.  “I was so shocked I did not know what to say.  Rachel was so excited she could hardly stand it.  Melody Walker-Badie took off with Rachel pulling outfits together and the fun began.   Kristin was helping me pull outfits and in the middle of our search I had to stop her.  I shared with her I was so overwhelmed and I wanted to make sure she knew how much we appreciated the generosity of maurice’s.”

“They also provided flowers, fruit, cheese and cupcakes!  It was amazing,” she adds.

Jenny had a business trip overseas right after the event, but her first call when she landed in Atlanta on Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, was to Melody at the Conyers store to say how much the event meant to her and Rachel.

maurices is also supporting the American Cancer Society with the introduction of its new Holiday Necklace. The 2013 Holiday Necklace includes three fashionable necklaces packaged together and comes in both silver and gold. Retailing for $12, the company will contribute a minimum of $6 from the sale price of every necklace to the American Cancer Society to help finish the fight against cancer. The company hopes to raise more than $400,000 for the Society this year through sales of the necklace.

For the last nine years, maurices’ partnership with the American Cancer Society has raised more than $8 million for the organization from combined fundraising efforts within their retail stores through the sales of custom designed jewelry, in-store fundraisers and corporate financial contributions.  This year's holiday necklace will be on sale through Jan. 5, 2014 (or while supplies last.
