Jekyll Brewing Celebrates Grand Opening

Alpharetta is now home to a microbrewery, Jekyll Brewing. City and business leaders helped cut the ribbon this afternoon, toured the brewery and sampled the beer.

You can buy what they are brewing at local growler stores and select restaurants in Alpharetta, Woodstock, Decatur, Sandy Springs and other metro Atlanta communities. Distribution started 11 days ago.

Mike Lundmark founded the company and partners with Jekyll's brewer, Josh Rachel, who also is a co-owner.

Hop Alley in downtown Alpharetta already sold out of its first delivery of Jekyll's Hop Dang Diggity IPA, and planned to start pouring the Big Creek Kolsch. They also are brewing an American brown named Cooter Brown.

"Folks are burning through our kegs in record time, which is really amazing," Lundmark said.

All the growler stores in town carry Jekyll Brewing beer. Among the Alpharetta restaurants pouring its products are:

  • Mellow Mushroom Windward
  • Spice
  • The Diner at Northpoint
  • Taco Mac at Windward and Old Milton

"But if you want to take it home, go to the growler shop, they'll have it available to take it home," Lundmark said.

The two men used Kickstarter to raise $35,000. More than 350 people participated, and you can see the names of those who contributed $100 or more in a mural at the brewery.

Lundmark said the brewery wants to celebrate the South with its beer names. And mason jars are used as beer glasses.

Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle said a new, fun kind of atmosphere is coming to Alpharetta, and Jekyll Brewing is a part of that.

Tours are held Tuesday-Friday from 5-9 p.m., and Saturday from 1-9 p.m. The brewery is located at 2855 Marconi Drive, Ste 350, Alpharetta.

The brewery is available for group events, and the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce already is looking to host a Business After Hours event at the business.

The brewery recirculates water in its processes. And five farmers from the Ball Ground area pick up close to 18,000 pounds of grain each week to feed to their pigs and cattle. That solved a big problem for the brewery and the farmers.
