Downtown Alpharetta Farmers Market Opens Season on Saturday

Local residents can buy vegetables, artwork in downtown this weekend.

Fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants and edible homemade goods will be on display and available for visitors to purchase at the Downtown Alpharetta Farmers Market Saturday next door to .

The Downtown Alpharetta Trade Association (DATA) sponsors the Farmers Market, which kicks off its 2011 season on Saturday, April 16. It will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Farmers Market got its start in Spring 2006 under the old oak tree in the downtown parking lot behind . It was bi-weekly that yea, so it was expanded to weekly the next year. By 2008, the time was extended.

The Farmers Market shifted to a more visible spot in 2009, but DATA wanted it so visible that no one driving through historic downtown Alpharetta could miss it. So last year, it moved to the parking lot next to City Hall on Main Street.

It's open to the public and free, but bring some cash. You'll want to buy some of these fresh vegetables, plants, flowers and other homemade goods.

This week downtown visitors have even more opportunities to spend a few hours being entertained with , located on Milton Avenue between Main and Canton streets.
