Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal will celebrate the third annual Georgia Pre-K Week in Alpharetta on Monday.
Deal will visit Kids 'R' Kids, along with Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning’s Bright From the Start Commissioner Bobby Cagle. The week commemorates the 20th anniversary of Georgia's Pre-K Program.
Deal is one of roughly 150 officials who will visit over 3,000 Pre-K institutions across the state next week to celebrate the program.
The first lady plans to participate in reading activities with students, tour the facility, meet and talk with staff and observe the Alpharetta Pre-K program. She is slated to arrive at around 8:30 a.m. and leave around 9:15 a.m. The facility is located at 3455 Webb Bridge Road.
Students are set to give her a handmade book before she departs.
"We are so honored to have been named among the state’s Top 10 performing Georgia Pre-K programs for the third year in a row," said Shelan Meheux, owner of Kids ‘R’ Kids in Alpharetta, in a press release. "We are also humbled that Mrs. Deal is taking time away from her demanding schedule to visit with our students. We need more leaders like her to be vocal about the positive effects that early childhood education programs have on the future success of the child and of our community."
