Alpharetta, Milton Students Are National Merit Scholar Semifinalists

Students from Alpharetta and Milton high schools are among the semifinalists.

Several students from Alpharetta and Milton were among 94 students in the Fulton County School System who were named semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students, who are seniors, now continue in the national competition for more than 8,000 merit scholarship awards, a value of roughly $35 million.

Finalists will be named in the winter and the scholarship winners will be announced in the spring.

The students were identified through exceptional scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which they took as juniors.

As semifinalists, students now must fulfill several requirements in order to advance to the finalist round: have a record of high academic performance, be endorsed and recommended by their school leadership and earn SAT scores that "confirm their earlier qualifying test performance," Fulton County Schools said.
