'The Only Light in Reno' Now Playing in Roswell

The Georgia Ensemble Theatre on Thursday began a month-long production of "The Only Light in Reno" at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. 

In fact, it's the world premiere of a new comedy by Topher Payne set in the Nevada city in 1960. The GET specifically commissioned this work for its patrons, according to artistic director Robert Farley. 

Here's what it's all about: 

It is 106 degrees outside. Filming on “The Misfits” is hopelessly behind schedule, with no end in sight. The Sierra Mountains are on fire, and Reno is in total blackout. Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift are playing board games with an accused murderess, and Marilyn Monroe is locked in the bathroom. The hilarious story of when Hollywood came to The Biggest Little City in the World, and everything went up in flames.

The production stars GET regulars Rachel Sorsa, Rachel Donadio and Shelly McCook, Johnny Drago and Elizabeth Genge. 

The show continues through Jan. 26 on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. A Saturday matinee starts at 4 and a Sunday matinee begins at 2:30 p.m. 

"The Only Light in Reno" is the first show of the year for the GET, which is North Fulton's only professional theatre company.

Ticket prices range between $25 and $35, and limited tickets are priced between $10 and $15 based on availability.
