Recapture that 'Classic' Feeling at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre this Season

It's a classic rock season at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre this season, with bands like the Eagles, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Styx and REO Speedwagon - plus a few new favorites.

Feeling nostalgic? A visit to Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park this upcoming season may be a chance to recapture your youth with several classic rock concerts, including some bands that have reunited.

The concert season kicks off April 29 with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. And the ‘70s bands continue through the summer with Styx, Ted Nugent, the Eagles and Crosby, Stills & Nash. There is also a Beatles tribute band joining the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Or, if you’re looking for more contemporary music, you can find Foster the People and Barenaked Ladies performing there for the first time.

And for your deadhead fix, the jam band Furthur, founded by former Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, will take the stage in July.

“During our 2012 concert season, we welcome favorites from past seasons such as the Eagles, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Furthur and Styx and REO,” Keri Musgraves, a Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre spokesperson, told Patch by e-mail. “We are also looking forward to artists who will take the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park stage for the first time. As always, our goal is to provide a wide array of musical genres so that everyone can select concerts to attend which they will thoroughly enjoy.”

Nominated the “Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue” by Pollstar Concert Industry Awards for three of the last four years, the amphitheatre in Alpharetta is also the summer home of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

In July, the Beatles tribute band Classical Mystery Tour will join the symphony for a night of Beatles favorites. The band members look and sound like the original foursome from Liverpool and will play songs like “Penny Lane” the way they were written, with live trumpet accompaniment.
