Original story, Friday, Feb. 15:
Two years ago Von Grey were playing at Matildas Under the Pines in Alpharetta, these days the quartet of sisters from Johns Creek are moving on to bigger things.
Tuesday night they will perform their original brand of soulful alternative folk on "The Late Show With David Letterman."
"It's still pretty new news to us," Fiona von Grey, 15, told Patch in the days leading up to the scheduled appearance. "We were not expecting anything like this." Fiona credits Von Grey's management team, Red Light, with booking the Letterman gig. They plan to perform their song "Coming For You."
Fiona says she and her sisters have been playing music since a young age, with their parents getting them involved in music early on. They primarily trained on classical music, but four years ago decided to branch out and form their band.
While the sisters all play a variety of instruments, Fiona and Annika, 16, are the lead singers and songwriters, Kathryn, 18, plays cello and mandolin, and Petra, 12, plays keyboards and lap steel guitar.
They sing four-part harmonies, and Fiona says their music also has Irish and classical influences.
Closer to home, Von Grey will appear at The Five Spot in Atlanta on Feb. 21 and the Norcross Festival on April 27. They will also be playing at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, on March 12
